Today's HAPPY thought

Do ya want to know something that makes me happy?

Something that makes me smile as it brightens my day?

It's finding Jonagold apples (Honeycrisps have all said bye bye) at my local Yokes market for .78 cents a pound.

It's buying several pounds of them, and hoping against hope that they will be good.

Good as in, never been in cold storage.

Good as in, not at all MUSHY.

Good as in, not too sweet.

Good as in, a nice slightly tangy taste.

And knowing that in mid to late January, the chances of finding apples that fit this discription are almost impossible to find. But wanting them so badly you are willing to take a chance on them anyway.

After all they are only .78 cents a pound.

And

guess

what????

They are delicious!!!!!!

78 cents!! What a deal!! But ten times more rewarding than the deal, is that your taste buds are completely satisfied!

I know what you meant about cold-storage apples! I work at a school, and we serve apples several times a week, all year long. I LOVE a crisp apple, but frankly, after all the mushy after-season apples I've eaten, it's hard for me to even pick one up from the bin. I want someone else to take that first test bite for me! Maybe I'll run to Yoke's after school today. Thanks for being my apple guinea pig!

Is that a Longaberger basket? Made in Ohio!

That makes me happy too! I love crispy crunchy apples (especially honeycrisp!)

Oh good, that would make me happy too :) Too often these days I am sorely disappointed with the apples I buy, so I find I just don't buy them very often anymore :(

I think you should bake us a pie with all those apples!

Lisa! Use my excellently flavored and crisp yet juicy apples in a pie?!?!?
Absolutely NOT! Pies are for the apples that you buy thinking they will be good and then are completely dissapointed by their inferiority.
Plus, I hate all of that peeling and then slicing.

NO PIE!

Crisp apples are the best.

If you do want to make pie an apple slicer corer is wonderful.

Finally! I have tried 3 times to leave you a comment and it wouldn't let me. Blogger just kept saying there was an error.

I love your basket more than I love apples. It is so beautiful! I used to collect baskets and I've never seen one like that. It is perfect for apples. So pretty.

So, were all the apples as delicious as the first? Did you give in and make a pie?

Your post looked so yummy, it reminded me to eat the apple that I brought in my lunch today. Miranda wanted apples yesterday, so we went to Costco and got Fuji's. (Which are pretty good) BTW Your Jonogolds have most likely been in cold storage, or they would be mushy. Apples fresh out of cold storage are really good.

oh boy~ am I late to the apple parade or what?

Apples. Mmmmm... A great fruit. A dumb name for a child. Apple pie... nah... I would much prefer a nice apple crisp.

I have loved my honey crisp apples...and I am with you, soft apples are for the birds. And I hadn't thought about it before but you said it perfectly, a good crisp apple does make you happy.

PS I was shocked! I think this is the shortest post I have ever seen from you. I was dissappointed. I had settled in for a nice Susan post and this one just ended all too soon!!! :) Love ya.
